I'd normally message you directly, but I'd point out that Orbital, the recipient of the 2024 Booker prize, takes place in space (International Space Station), but is considered by most booksellers as fiction.

Space is the location, not the genre (I have to assume, I haven't read it yet, except for the first paragraph). I've been thinking about space/sci-fi for a long time in terms of how books set on spaceships have taken over what used to be a genre (and location) - seafaring adventure stories. But also Westerns!! There are still Western LOCATIONS in Romance and Mystery/Thriller (and Western-themed/set Romances are a subgenre), but the genre of Westerns has been almost completely absorbed into other genres. The themes of Westerns often show up in Sci-Fi and even Fantasy, whereas the locations show up in Romance and Mystery/Thriller. And then there are speculative/literary versions of all of the above that get labeled "Fiction." Thanks for joining the conversation, Rene!
